Save money on your kids
Kids are expensive. That's why this website is geared toward single parents but this information also applies to any family.
Firstly - kitting up your kids. I had all of my baby essentials passed on to me or bought from a charity shop. Check out Ebay or your local freecycle http://uk.freecycle.org/ website. People are even selling on Facebook nowadays which is great for bulky items. The only thing I bought new myself was a cot mattress and a highchair (both from Ikea) so not exactly expensive.
Do not feel the need to spoil your child with presents & toys. I have made that mistake & truly we have run out of space in his double bedroom for all the toys he has. I would much prefer contributions to his child savings account (which I will talk about later) than another remote control car. If you do feel that they need something else then charity shops totally rock!! I bought a wooden height chart, a huge Doc (7 dwarfs) and a Next jacket for £1.50 from my local Salvation army shop. Kids grow so fast that they barely wear their clothes and so don't be too proud to scour your local charity shops for decent clothes, slightly more expensive is Ebay (only because you pay P&P) but truly don't spend a fortune on kid's clothes as they will get ruined either at nursery or in general playing.
Just stumbled upon this and thought I should share it
